Initial use of Motiv''s Power Gel cleaner.
« on: December 04, 2010, 09:23:52 AM »
FWIW:
I had to try this as it came highly recommend from a ballreviews friend, Shaggy.

Since it comes only in a large sized bottle, it''s too large to take it to the lanes in my bag. So I put a small amount in a 2 - 4 oz plastic bottle with a squeeze applicator and brought it along with a dry, clean terry cloth towel, just for this purpose.

I used a polished Terminator Rebellion for one game and it got some oil shine lines ground into the surface. They were easily visible. So it would be a good test. These are the hardest thing to remove other than dead/dying belt, black marks. All water based cleaners that I have tried cannot remove these. Only very strong cleaners, NOT approved for use DURING bowling, but approved for use before or after bowling, like Clean and Dull and Hook-IT can easily remove this oil shine.

So, I squirted a dime sized amount into the towel and to prevent it from falling off, I rubbed it onto the towel before rubbing the ball with it. It took maybe 5 applications and a LOT of VERY HARD rubbing to do that. It''s good that it did remove the oil shine but the amount of effort was very high compared to Clean and Dull, or Hook-It.

I think the Power Gel is a great cleaner to use and I don't think it gets enough recgonition that it deserves. At the most, I only had to do two applications on a ball that had the excess black belt marks and dirt off the balls. But it does get the job done and when you use it on a polish ball it keeps the ball polished. Got my bottle around the beginning of the year and still have about half a bottle left so the 15oz for the price they sell it for is a huge plus.

I'm going to buy the Power Gel Scuff this week to see how that works compared to Clean 'N Dull but haven't really heard much comments about the Scuff. Also, I got the Power Gel Polish but I would recommend using a spinner for that, by hand it's really hard to get a good polish with it without the powdery mess.

For the price and size of bottle, I like the Power Gel for an everyday cleaner.  I think it is a little better than Remedy, Powerhouse Powerwash or Energizer for everyday purposes.  I do not consider Power Gel to be a deep cleaner like Clean N Dull.

I have used the Scuff, it is similar to Valentino's Resurrection.  Those are the only two cleaners I have tried with the grit that changes teh surface.

It's a great cleaner, but not approved for use during a USBC event.

I have used it for years, ever since I got samples free with Legends balls. BUT, as milo says, it can only be used after bowling. It cannot be used DURING bowling. For that I use Remedy RX, the best water-based cleaner I have found so far.
