logo/lettering touch-up paint?
« on: February 17, 2010, 07:12:43 AM »
Does anyone use model paint to touch-up the grimed up logo/letterings on their ball?

I've tried using a White-Out pen to fill in the letters on my Hammer Raw Anger, just cause Hammer used white. Well...it works really well! Trace the words with the Whiteout pen, wipe excess...and viola! looks new!

Now I only need a Neon-Orange and Yellow paint for my other balls. So far...unsuccessful with anything other than White out.

Just curious..

I have seen some 'crayon' like pencils that are made for just this.  I think it was on bowlingball dot com.  They come in different colors, one is even sparkled.

Nope, I havn't tried that. I use the actual paint made for this purpose. It's pretty inexpensive. you can find it here. http://www.shop.innovativebowling.com/product.sc?productId=199&categoryId=8

I use water-based acryllic paint from the hobby store (glossy), and it works great, too. I apply it with a soft spatula (just like in industrial production), let it dry and rub off excess paint. Durable and with good brightness. If you use neon paint, better apply a white base coat under it for extra "glow".

Just as useful! Any specific brand you recommend? Not even sure if I can find it  in North America, but it's worth a try! Thanks!

Hmm, best bet is to visit a local DIY/hobby store and check the art department. I use paints from a company called Marabu, but that's just because it is the stuff I have at hand around here.

Normally, you find water-based acryllic paints in small glasses (maybe 1 ounce), and that's already all you need. There are also artist colors in tubes available, which have a lower viscosity and finer pigments, but they are more expensive and also more brittle, and they are normally matte.

As a tip: make sure you get a glossy paint, because the matte paints catch up dirt quickly (much like normal engravings...).
