Restore Pearlized Factory Finish
« on: January 28, 2005, 12:21:46 AM »
I have two Hammer Pearl Blade bowling balls.  One is two years old and the other was just drilled yesterday.  I would like to restore the finish of the 2-year old ball to the factory surface, but I just can't find the right combination of sanding and polishing.

The new Pearl Blade's factory finish seems to be satin like, it's not sanded but yet it's not polished glossy neither.  I have tried sanding it down to 400-600 grit and then applying Ebonite Factory Finish, but it still comes out smooth and shiny rather than the original satin finish.

Has anyone found a good way to closely replicate a factory finish on this type of pearl material?  Maybe Abralon would get me closer, but what grit of Abralon should I stop at?

Any suggestions appreciated.

I'm not sure about the surface grit on the hammers, but I want to get a matte finish, I like to use the Ebonite powerhouse matte finish compound or Track Magic Clean n Sheen...  it leaves the ball with the shiney/smooth type of finish.  I believe the ending grit is equivalent to somewhere around 1500 grit wet sand for both...
