How do I ensure I covered everything...

For you guys that resurface by hand with Scotch Brite...how do you ensure you covered the entire ball?  By feel?  Do you mark off sections with a grease pencil?

Left side of grip holes, right side of grip holes, top of ball, bottom of ball.

I can understand "refreshing" a surface by hand.

TRUE resurfacing cannot be done by hand. I tried it several times before I got spinner. After 6+ years with a spinner, I feel it is impoosible to do a true, EFFECTIVE resurfacing without a spinner.

as good as a spinner is a haus-type machine is even better.

However, it's unlikely a private individual would have or spend $3000 + for such an item. If you do own a spinner, you're not likely to bring your ball to be re-surfaced at a pro shop. Some individuals might, but my feeling is that most will not.
