I just tried changing the surface of some pearls with a 2000 grit abralon pad and then a 4000 grit pad. By the time I got to the 2nd ball, the 4000 grit pad hardly finished the 2nd ball when it seemed to quit.

FYI I only did 2 sides on each ball; roughly 2/3 of the top and then 2/3 of the bottom. I used plenty of water and a spinner of course. I didn;t press very hard, just enough to make sure I was changing the surface.

So is/are 2 balls the limit of use for a 4000 grit pad?
If so, this seems pretty expensive.

The 2000 grit pad seems still usable.

i'VE used mine and the ones at the pro shop many, many times,...4000 is very fine,..I make sure,..(as you do I'm sure), to use plenty of water t0 keep the junk out off the pad,...4000 on some of my balls will leave a nice shine when followed up with a clean wet towel,..4000's don't do much, but they give a great slick surface without polish,..which holds up much longer,...I don't think they should wear after a couple uses,..mine haven't...

That is what my object was in trying it.

Maybe it still is good. I'll try it again. I do use lots of water. Even when something dries on it, I brush it off with a toothbrush (nice short, soft bristles) to clean it off.

My white Trizact does almost also leave a polished looking finish.

Both balls finsihed with the 4000 grit pad remain dull.

I thought the same thing untill I used the 4000 with a recirculating pump so that there was plent of water, amazing difference. now the balls look like they have a slight shine to them.

I'm only using a spray bottle as my spinner is not near a source of water, but I'll try more water next time.

I have used 4000 on many balls. I dip it in a bucket of water each time I change sides, spray water as I do a side. When I'm finished, let it dry and I hit it with compressed air to blow out any small particles, just how I do it.
