Scotch Brite Longevity

What it the longevity of a single pad.  5 balls? 10? More? Less?  And does anyone know how much the grit actually changes after a lot of use?  A lot or a little??

The longevity is better than sandpaper but I've not counted the number of balls per pad yet.  I've seen different sizes of pads and usually I end up cutting up the pads into smaller ones to use.  Plus, how much pressure do you put on and how much do I put on each pad?  Will also vary by how many 'sides' you do each ball.  Some people do two and others four.

I think that the grit doesnt really change much as it is the actual fibers that constitute the grit.  I will wait for Charlest to respond to this.

I can't offer any more than you have said. Like most things in life, the answer is it depends. I tend to use more nylon pads because they're more convenient. I have all (sandpaper, nylon pads & Trizact) except Abralon pads, which may very well be the next Best Thing.

The grit does change, but more slowly than sandpaper. Used nylon pads last longer than used sandpaper and can be used to apply a finer matte surface, but with less control over the actual final grit than some other methods. Use what seems right to you.

Not quite; they do last longer, but whether it's worth to you or not depends on how much you use them, how hard you use them, how much you pay for nylon pads vs sandpaper, etc. I find their convenience worth the money, but I have not balanced the accounting ledger yet.
