Hybrid bowling balls
« on: June 14, 2009, 05:29:10 PM »
Ok so I am noticing a few of the hybrid coverstocks coming out now. I know the HyRoad is a very popular hybrid. My question is what is supposed to be the advantage of a hybrid ball and what is the difference between it and just a all solid or all pearl ball??

The advantage of a hybrid is pretty much the disadvantage of a pure pearl or pure solid.

Solids, generally, need more head oil than pearls...
Pearls, generally, don't like much carrydown on the backends...

Hybrids usually fit right in the middle.  They don't mind a little carrydown, yet they don't tend to burn up as early as a solid reactive coverstock.

I think most companies are already there, but they aren't buying into the hype surrounding the word "hybrid"

Case and point...  Ebonite/Track/Hammer/Columbia have yet to really use that word, but I'm fairly sure they have products on the market that could be considered to have the same characteristics as the hybrid coverstocks that everyone seems so head over heels about.

The object of a hybrid is to give the bowler a smoother rolling bowling ball with some length and a slight kick in the backend.  I personally love the hybrids.  They don't have the razzle dazzle of a high gloss ball but they do give consistency and versatility.  I really like taking the hybrids down with 1000-4000 micro-pads, giving it a harder, smoother roll.
