when using a plastic ball at your spares  do you use the same type of release you would use on your strike ball, knowing that the plastic ball would not hook or do you use a broken (looser) release for that type of shot.

I use same drill as any other ball, just a weak release.

I use a different release, i kill the ball. Its often rolling over my thumb hole

I have the spare ball at conventional grip and it depends on what type of lane im on. If im on a house shot I'll throw it with hook because its not going to move and its easier to aim. If im on a sport shot I break the wrist and throw it straight. I don't roll it or anything like that it just skids but thats for single pin. If its a multipin depending on where its at will make me decide on whether or not to hook it or throw straight.

for me it depends upon the spare. right corner spares are shot with the back-up ball release. other spares i find myself using almost a strike ball release. of course my typical strike ball release is appx. 20 degrees of axis rotation.

Modified drill (finger, and negative side weight), nearly the same release as my strike ball.  My Fireball doesn't hook much

Alot of people find this weird but I use the same ball to shoot 10 pins as my strike ball. For 10 pins after I breathe in my thumb hole I only put my thumb in and rest my fingers on the finger holes. After breaking my wrist back I increase my speed a little and SHAZAM! I practiced this for quite a while before using. I'm probably about 95+% accurate. I do miss, but not very often.
I HATE carrying a ball for ONE pin. If I can't hit the stupid thing I need to go do something else. The 95+% is the average percent for ALL of my spares.
I am NOT telling anyone else to do this. This works for me!

I used to use my strike ball for spares. I'd just throw a 27 MPH knuckleball at everything. I have since bought a spare ball to cut down on wear and tear on my high-performance stuff, but I still kill it completely.

I thought the whole idea of using a plastic spare ball was to be able to use your normal release and speed and not worrying about hook.
