Another homemade Ball rejuvenator./pics
« on: April 18, 2007, 02:10:52 AM »
Well heres another homemade ball cooker

I used a old Magic Chef food dehydrator and a 5 gallon bucket.
The ball is a inferno sanded to 400 grit.

I placed a ball on the Magic Chef with a paper towel and a plastic ring under it.then set the bucket over it.
Temp. reached around 105-110* slowly and after 45 mins I checked the ball.
It was sweating pretty good

I wiped and cleaned the ball off and put it back for another go. Seems to be doing good.

Update I had the ball in for about 2 hrs and it seems to got most of the oil out. I think I'll make a adjustment to the rig by adding some small holes at the top.
This should help with air circulation better.

Pretty slick!

$20 for the dehydrator and $5 for a bucket.

IIRC, dehydrator's don't get hotter than 150.

Nice job!

I've done three balls so far, its working pretty good.

I got the bucket free from the deli at A Sweetbay store,
The dehydrator was one I got as a gift one time.

The temp only seems to get up to 110. The balls dont even feel
warm, but the oil is coming out.

how well does the hair dryer and bucket idea work?

what kind of time do you leave the ball in there for?

I like the dehydrator over the hair dryer.

Dehydrator is basically a warm fan - the heat is distributed pretty evenly.

Something about the hair dryer and the concentrated heat would make me worry.

Now, figure a way to rotate the ball under the hair dryer and it might sound better.  Plus, I think the dehydrator will probably last a little bit longer - they are made to run for 8+ hours at a time vs 5-10 minutes of a hair dryer.  My wife goes through a hair dryer every year or 2 - the heating elements just burn out...???...guess they don't make stuff like they used to!

Guess I'll try to find the dehydrator this weekend.....garage or attic, I know it's around here somewhere.

exactly good luck trying to FIND it, and also thats why I have port holes so the heat circulates evenly, Im not trying to make it into a contest, I gave the guy his props and said 5gallon bucket is the way to go, wow everythings a contest here.

No contest.  I was just giving my opinion on why I think the dehydrator might be better than the hair dryer.  I haven't tried either method, so it's strictly speculation on my part.

I say to use whatever works for you.  They both appear to work, and results are really all that matter.
