spinner trouble help
« on: August 29, 2008, 09:05:23 AM »
my spinner is an old fella one speed. It just seized. the motor is still trying to turn so I took it out trying to get it fixed. tried generator shop, electrical place and no luck no one says they would work on it. In desperation I took it to my auto mechanic and he plugged it in and said the motor indeed was trying to turn the cup. He used a lube gun connected to air and lubed underneath the cup where there was little fitting where the oil gun connected. after lube he turned the wheel a bit and lubed again and it began to turn freely. I bring it home excited because my spinner been down for about a month. I resufaced my gravity shift and added a little polish to my v2 sanded. and it seized up again whats going on with my spinner? what should I do and who can do it. any and all info is greatly appreciated.

If its a tub mount, check for water seeping into the bearing. it could be flushing the grease out and allow the bearing to heat up causing it seize up.

should be able to take the bearing out and just replace it.

what is a tub mount system? and you said i could replace the bearing. where can i find bearings for it. the water may be the problem maybe I did spray to much water while resurfacing.

Remove the belt so you can determine for sure whether the problem is the motor or the cup shaft bearing. After removing the belt turn the motor on and see if the motor runs smooth. Turn the cup shaft by hand and see if it turns easy or hard. From the sound of things you probably need a new cup shaft bearing. If your not mechanically inclined you'll have to take it someplace to have it fixed.

A tub mounted spinner is one like in a proshop. its one mounted in a utility tub(sink)so you can have a constant flow of water over the ball as you surface it.
the cup shaft comes thru a sealed bearing mounted in the bottom of the tub.

You can find bearings at Autoparts stores, alot of hardware stores, online, a machineshop might get it for you.

Check with the spinner mfg. order a replacement part would be easiest.

Armswing, is there a Grainger industrial supply store in your area? Chances are the bearing you need is readily available. If you can get it off of the spinner, there should be some numbers on it that they can use to find a replacement with.
