bowlerdawg,
There is no one grit or finish that will conquer ALL carrydown.
1. It depends on what you're using now, and how bad the carrydown is.
2. If you use too rough a surface, you might not be able to use the ball because it won't clear the heads or won't retain enough energy if it does.
3. Usually if you drop one level of grit, it will often work. So, if the ball is at 2000 grit, matte or dull, then if you use the same ball at 1200 or 1500 grit dull/matte, it should still clear the heads and midlane and have enough to hook thru the carrydown. If 4000 grit can't get thru carrydown, 2000 grit can. If 1000 grit can't get thru carrydown, then 600 or 800 grit should. And so on.
If you use pearls:
If 1500 grit polished can't get thru carrydown, then try the same ball with 800 or 1000 grit plus polish.
4. You can always change your angle and use a milder ball and play a breakpoint outside or inside the carrydown area. Example: our carrydown area is usually from 6-9 boards. We can change our breakpoint from 7 board to the 5 board using a less aggressive ball with more backend. or just s less agressive ball.
OR
we can play more of a fallback shot by using the 10 board as the breakpoint, using a ball with a higher and longer pin.
