Storm Step 1, 2 & 3
« on: December 07, 2003, 04:49:29 AM »
Are these good?  Storm gives 220/800-grit Compound on Step 1, 320/1500-grit Compound on Step 2 and 1500/2500-grit Compound on Step 3.  I would assume it is how you use them on a spinner as to what finish you get.

Anybody have any experience with them and how they work?

Thanks,
Scott

I am also interested in some reactions to Storm's 1,2 and 3 compounds. I have only used sandpaper and Black Magic on my spinner yet. How do you apply and work with compounds like these?

I use these products too, and I agree completely with Bob Hylka.

Using the black labelled Black Magic after the Step Three gets even a little bit more shine.

I also use the Storm Xtra-Shine, which supposedly gives a 3500 grit finish.  I does appear to be a bit shinier than what you get from the Step Three (2500 grit), but at that level of shine you have to look very closely for the details in reflected objects to tell.

Some balls polish up easily, but others are resistant to surface changes and require more time and energy.  After a little experience on the spinner, you'll notice quickly which ones shine easily and which don't.

The bad news is that Storm just dramatically increased the prices that distributors must pay for their polishes.  As a result, the prices we pay for them just jumped as well.  The Storm polishes used to cost around $16.95 for a quart in the on-line shops, but the prices just jumped WAY up.  Look around and see if you can find someplace that is still selling old stock for the lower price.

I just checked my records, and I got some Storm Step Two at www.bowlingindex.com for the cheaper price about a month ago.  I tried to look and see if they still offer the lower price, but while my work computer will let me get to the site, the on-line pro shop section of the site won't open for me.

Many thanks to Bob Hylka and da Shiv!

So how do you do when you apply the stuff? Do you apply the stuff to the whole ball and then put it on the spinner? Or do you put the ball directly on the spinner and then apply the stuff? And what do you use to make the stuff work on the ball? A sanding block, perhaps with lambswool? Or do use a sponge? Or a towel? Anyone here have any tips?

Thanks Bob,

The reason for my asking was that I had used up the samples of Storm 1 and 2 the pro-shop gave me. I am going to try the water thing when I get the bottles I ordered over the Internet.

I have also heard that a wet towel instead of a dry one makes for a smoother surface. Going to try that, too.
