It depends on which grading system is used for the "1000 grit matte" finish.

 

Abralon and Siaair used the FEPA of European grading system. So their 1000 grit should always be preceded by a "P" to make it clear what you're talking about (or use "Abralon"or "Siaair" after the number.)

 

90% of the time these days when we says 1000 grit we are using the FEPA system and the grit is usually created with an Abralon or Siaair pad. The green, maroon and grey Scotch-Brite pads are/use the US/CAMI grading system. Their 1000 grit CAMI= 2000 grit FEPA (or "P2000 grit").

To be honest I think from what I have seen that it is not a matter of being "good enough". You probably are. It is often a matter of ball speed that will show smaller difference in grit as reflected on ball reaction.  The slower your speed, the more you will see smaller differences in grit result in visible differences. Less speed gives you a longer chance to see the reaction. More speed gives less of a chance and provides less of a difference.

I'm in the same situation: been trying to balance my ball speed and rev rate for 2 years now. Now able to see Jasnau.

I can see differences between 1000 and 2000 under polish and 1500 and 3000 under polish. Sigh ...  Wish I couldn't. Even tried the crutch of a wrist support. (Darn!!!)
