storm XXX resurface
« on: May 01, 2005, 02:33:24 PM »
I was looking for someone who has resurfaced a storm Triple X.  What did the ball do after you had it done, and did it hold up?  please let me know I need to get my done and soon.

To me, something like this depends on your style, revs, speed, and etc. As for me, I am rev challanged with 15 mph speed, give or take a mph. Also I don't have a lot of hand. I scotchbrited mine with a 6 sided sanding with the last 2 sides perpendicular to the track. I then put on some Ultimate Quick Cut 500 grit polish. I didn't put it on very heavy as I didn't want to fill the pores, but what I put on, I worked it in pretty hard and got probably around a 1500 Grit or so shine. I then used over that, some Columbia 2000 Grit polish. I put a glob of polish a wee bit less than the size of a half dollar on the top half of ball and worked it in hard. Ditto for bottom half of ball. I then sprayed the ball with water and burned it in. (this gets rid of the polishing dust) Every bowling session, I put the ball on my spinner and put a thin coat of Track Reaction Plus on it, and this seems to prolong the life of the polish for me. For me, the ball works better than NIB. I'm sure others have their own formulas and the way they do it, works for them.

I guess I should have told you that the ball has a blemish in the cover.  It has a swirl right on the track and I did not notice it till I throw it.  There is no other need to do anything to the cover for me other than to fix the blemish.

I bought my XXX when it first came out and just recently did it's first full resurface to remove surface nicks and the like.  I started with 320 grit wet sandpaper and progressed on up to and finished with 800 grit wet sandpaper, then polished the ball up with STORM's Reacta-Shine to give it a nice polish.  The resulting reaction was just like the OOB condition if I remember correctly.

Hope this information is useful.
