Homemade ball spinner

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried making their own ball spinner at home.  If so could you explain how you did this.

We had this discussion a while ago, and someone even built a spinner from a fruit press. You might use the search function...

Whatever you do, never try to bolt a Tupperware bowl onto the top of the washing machine drum, stick a screwdriver in the safety latch, and turn it onto spin cycle.

Not that I am stupid enough to try it, but I imagine this is what would probably happen.

It would start spinning perfectly, nice and smooth up to full speed, then as you stood there and watched in amazement thinking how smart you are, it would then come off balance.  Throwing your 14lb Roto-Grip Saturn (just a random named ball I chose to say) into the raised door enough to bend it to the point it won't close.

Then your wife would probably come down to see what the racket was. After that I figure she would call you an idiot, and tell you that you better fix the door on her washing machine.

Wonder if anybody has ever been dumb enough to try something like that ???

Your story sounds about as believable as O.J.'s book, titled "If I did it.....".

The theory is fine but you would be better off finding a discarded washing machine in the dump and reusing its motor.

LOL !!!

i actually made one out of a treadmill motor. i took the front part of a treadmill where the motor is and cut it off the frame. then i took the motor with the flywheel still attached to part of the frame and mounted that onto a floor cabinet with the flywheel upright. disconnected the front control panel and reattached downstairs in the garage.drilled 3 holes in the flywheel which is cast iron and attached a thick flower pot to it with screws. it's got a 2.5 hp motor that will do 8 mph. i can control the speed with the front panel and bring up the speed slow as i want. this sucker will fly. i tested it after i put it together and had it going so fast, the finger inserts fly out and all the way across the garage. it is great for putting ruff buff and polish on the ball because you can really get the heat in it. great for cleaning too. oh yea, i forgot, we never used the treadmill anyways so it cost about $4.00 for the flower pot and 2 bucks for the mounting brackets and screws. i even put the cover back on the motor to protect it from the dirt. i live in south bend indiana so i am kinda worried about how it will hold up in the winter. i wish i had room in the basement but no such luck. if you want pics, feel free to send your e-mail, it's really pretty cool.

Anyone ever try mounting a spindle on a garbage disposal?
it seems like it would be so easy - right in the sink - water, drainage, everything.  Just need a mount of some sort, and a way to attach the spindle to the blades.

And a way to slow the motor down.  That's why most spinners are belt driven instead of direct drive.  --  JohnP
