Surface change question
« on: August 30, 2012, 06:15:52 PM »
I have a Mission 2.0 drilled with the pin up and about 4" from the pap.  In box (2000) it is too strong.  When we polished it, the backend became almost uncontrollable for my slower speed.  My question is, what should I expect if I change the surface to 4000?  Or would the new delayed reaction polish over the 2000 surface be a better choice to obtain a smoother reaction?  I would like to have this ball fit under my Mission X if possible.

Thanks for the help.

This might sound a bit weird but step down the pads then apply polish. Go from like a 600 pad to 800 and on down to 4000. Its going to start the ball a bit sooner but smooth out the overall motion. I normally do it to my THS control balls. Polishing a strong sym like that will weaken the cover in oil causing corners and make the ball sideways in friction.

4000 grit (first try 500/1000/2000/4000; if that does work then you could try 500/4000) could work. It will go slightly longer than 2000 grit, with slightly more backend.

However, way before you try Delayed Reaction, I suggest you try 500 grit under a medium gloss, nonabrasive polish like Valentino's Snake Oil
OR 1000 grit under a light polish.

Both 4000 grit and the light polish should put this one under the Mission X. It's a matter of how far under the X you want to put the ball.

My guess is that a 500/4000 or a 500/3000 grit would probably be closest IF your drilling on the Mission 2.0 is right.

Thanks guys.  What we did was take it down then go over it with a 3000 Abralon pad.  Took it to the lanes and after throwing two big splits and making a slight adjustment with my feet, ran off 7 strikes.  Maybe we've hit the right surface.

Thanks again for the advice.
