So, when you are taking oil out of a ball when using a ball reviver how do you know if it’s oil or plasticizer ? I have heard that if temp is too high you run the risk of this. I apologize if the spelling is wrong.

Motiv's warranty advises not to store bowling balls in temperatures below 40 degrees or above 125 degrees. So Motiv is suggesting that you not use more than 125 degrees of heat when you de-oil your ball. My Nu Ball Rejuvenator has a gauge that goes up to 145 degrees, but to be safe, I keep the temperature at 125 degrees.

My Motiv balls do not shed a lot of oil in the de-oiling process. I cannot tell what plasticizer looks like, but I would be shocked if I removed any. I have not seen any weird ball motion at any time after de-oiling.

wasn't this an issue with the Columbia EPX?  never had one, but seem to recall reports about it losing something other than oil when heated for de-oiling.

I believe that is what happened with my EPX.  Only used hot tap water and after several baths, the cover started showing tiny cracking all along the surface.  Looked like what happens when a smooth mud surface sits in the sun.

EPX covers were notorious for cracking.  Likely had nothing to do with de oiling.

You can't know. They look the same. So the more you can avoid deoiling, the better.

Side note.. when I de-oil my motiv equipment, I hardly got any oil out of them.  De-oiling my Dad's storm and roto equipment and oil would pour out.  Motiv covers are just different.  I don't think they soak up oil... or I don't know what is going on.
