Survey: Sanding In Direction of Track Vs. Against Grain
« on: February 08, 2007, 04:12:38 PM »
Hey BR Family!

Well, I've been struggling with my Raw Hammer Toxic and trying to get it to push down the lane. See one of my videos in my profile for the layout (About Label Leverage). I tried Track Magic Shine on it and it got a bit more length, but still hooked a ton on the back.

So I took the advice of a friend and fellow board member Jonathan Ng. I took the ball down to 800 and then up to 1000. Followed it up with Track Magic Shine again. This time, I sanded the ball in the direction of my track and not cross grain. Tonight I tested it in league and I got a remarkable difference in reaction! It now goes even longer and tamed the backend a bit! I see more separation now in regards to this ball vs. the Black Widow.

Cool! Totally forgot about this technic. Sanding Cross grain will help the ball grab. Sanding with the grain will help the ball push more.

Thanks Jon and BR Family for your help!
Ramski

Just to add to the post...

Has anyone else sanded in the direction of your track as opposed to the usual Sanding Cross Grain?

Thanks!

I've tried it.In the book Revolutions #2 it's call the "Delayed Aggressive Reaction Pattern"
For me it didn't make much difference on the drier patterns. Where I needed more length.
Now one thats made more of  a difference is the one called "The Pro Surface" which involves sanding around the bow tie.
This makes the sanding lines perpendicular to the flaring track all the time. About the most aggressive sanding pattern. For the oiler patterns.

Having a rather low speed, I do it with all of my equipment, just to get the balls easier through the heads. Normally I make a 4 side finish in the desired grit, and the last 2 spinner rides go on the PAP axis to get the sanding lines parallel to my initial track.
