Anybody used this cleaner? Does it remove polish?

Also, I've heard some shop guys say if you used it with a spinner it will add some gloss to the surface over time, is this true?

Any thoughts on this stuff good or bad, let's hear it cause I want to try some but wanna know what im getting into as well.

I'd make 2 suggestions, well, 3 really.

1. Wait til Brickguy reports back on his next test.

2. Don't dismiss Remedy so soon. I tried another experiment with it recently - TIME. I know we're all pretty impatient and want results soon. I'm no different. With most of these cleaners, we should really let it sit on the dirt for a short while. Well, my short while is usually less than 5 seconds. Recently I tried patience - 30 seconds. I ws surprised to find it, a water based cleaner approved for use DURING bowling, to really remove a lot of oil rings embedded in the ball that usually takes Hook-It or

Clean and Dull to remove. It's still hard to wait that 30 seconds, especially in the bowling center, but try it. It works.

3. Be careful with Hook-It. I used it on on a ball I was finished with using during a league (I used another ball) and cleaned the first one with Hook-It. I accidentally got some on my hands. It made my hands & fingers as tacky as it made the ball surface. Good thing I had some alcohol with me to clean my hands. I would never have gotten my thumb out of the ball otherwise. They also say to NOT store a cloth used to clean off Hook-It near your bowling supplies. Like, REALLY!!! Take that to the bank!

I might just go with a solvent based cleaner anyway since I never really use cleaner during league. I tried Lane Masters, but I don't like it for other reasons than its cleaning ability. The strong odor seems to stay on my equipment and in my bag. It also seems evaporate (or get absorbed) so quickly when I take my microfiber towel to it.

I had my friend buy Hook-It when he recently asked which to get (between Power Wash and Hook-it). That seemed like a no brainer. I like that it has a more pleasant odor, and doesn't disappear so quickly. When my friend first used it, it seemed to leave a slight residue, but he barely wiped (and the instructions warn about this saying to continue rubbing with a towel to remove it). It seems to do a very good job cleaning though.

charlest....wasn't Hook-It the stuff they warned you about getting near your finger inserts when it first came out? I remember the label saying "do not use on or around finger inserts as damage may occur." Of course I had to try it....when I used whatever cleaner it was on my spinner across the top if the inserts, it actually melted the finger grips. I couldn't believe it.....like I said I think it was Hook It but I cannot be sure.

Update on testing the ball cleaners of Valentino's Remedy RX, Tac Up, and Black Magic Ultimate Rejuvenator....

First test ... Used Tac Up first and followed behind it with Black Magic Ultimate Rejuvenator

Results ..... Got more dirt and oil (not a lot but some) off ball with the Rejuvenator

Second test ... Used Black Magic Ultimate Rejuvenator first and followed behind it with Tac Up

Results ......... White towel stayed clean when followed up withTac Up, so the Rejuvenator removed all dirt and oil on first cleaning.

Third test ........Used Remedy RX first and followed behind it with Tac Up

Results ...........Got a wee bit more dirt/oil off ball when followed behind it with Tac Up, but ever so slight though

Fourth test ......Used Tac Up first and followed up with Remedy RX

Results ...........Got a very-very minimal amount of dirt/oil off ball when followed behind it with Remedy RX, but as in test #3, it was ever so slight

Summary ..... The Black Magic Ultimate Rejuvenator cleaned the balls the first time, so it is better than Remedy RX and Tac Up.

Remedy RX and Tac Up are basically even in their cleaning abilities, but a bit below Rejuvenator

I am going to run the tests one more time and if any change, I will post it. If no change, I will not post further.

However due to my wife having major surgery next Monday and will be hospitalized for a week - 10 days and then needing care at home, I will not be bowling after this Friday for a while, so it could be a while before I do any more testing.

^ - Thanks for the update. If I didn't run out of Tac Up, I probably could have tried it a little more as the first cleaner, but I think at the end of the day Remedy RX and Tac Up are pretty close. Going to have to try Black Magic sometime.

charlest, I'm using Remedy RX as you advised with good results. I wouldn't give up on it so easily. I trust a lot of the opinions on it that it's one of the best "approved for use during bowing" cleaners.

I make and sell my own cleaners, USBC approved anytime. I recently gave a sample of each to a local Pro Shop. When I checked back with him, he ordered 24 bottles of my Front 9, and 2 of my Late Shift. He said he was going to sell out of the Tack up. Don't know if he plans to stop selling it, but I expect he has people using it that may not want to switch.

Some of you mentioned the smell of some of the cleaners. My guess would be, that they are prety mild compared to my Front 9.

Edit: BTW Brick, still praying for your wife, and hoping for a good outcome.

It might have been, Doug. I don't recall, but I don't worry in any case.

I always use all cleaners by hand when they're dirty so none of them gets close to my inserts.

The only time I use a cleaner on a spinner is after I've sanded a ball and want to clean all the sanded residue off. And then I use a milder, water based cleaner.

I just got some Tac-Up and have been trying it. I'm always interested in learning something new.

I might have mentioned this before but, except for maybe the super cleaners, like Hook-It, Lanemasters cleaner, and Clean and Dull, it is very possible that when using any water-based cleaner after using another water-based cleaner, that the 2nd will always remove more dirt if only because you're doing more cleaning with more dirt remover. I don't know if any one has yet found a detergent that mixes with water that will cleaner better than one of the super-cleaners, whatever they may have in them.

That said, I haven't yet found one that is better than Remedy Rx, that includes Tac-Up, Liquid Nitro, Knock-Out, Zapp-It, Rejuvenator, Roy's Front 9 or Late Shift, Motiv's Power Gel Clean, Brunswick's Remove-all (aka Windex) and Simple Green. Several of them are as good and I use them also.

Regarding the smell of any of these cleaner: do not trust your nose to tell you if it's safe or not.

I just got the MSDS for Tac-Up and it says this regarding the vapors:

"If mists/vapors are not adequately controlled by local ventilation, use appropriate respiratory protection to prevent overexposures."

FYI This is true EVERY cleaner, not just Tac-up.

Your nose cannot always tell if some liquid is giving off unsafe vapors. Some of them have no odor at all, while other smell strongly. Heck, remember natural gas has so little odor, gas companies are forced to add a chemical to it that creates a strong odor, just so customers will know when they have leak. Carbon monoxide has no odor. You know you've been breathing it when they find your dead, lifeless body.

Bowling centers are huge open rooms. Your office or basement or your pro shop or wherever you clean your balls is small enclosed area which concentrates the vapors and you breathe them in.

Put the ball on my spinner and used Tac Up on it and it looks brand new again. The one downfall IMO is it does have a stronger smell than any other cleaner I've used before. But for the results i'll take it.

The center I work at sells Tac up it gives me a headache. It doesn't seem any better than the other cleaners.
