abralon pads

i've been lookin into buying some abralon pads, and i was curious to know how long they last before they have to be replaced

Hi everyone, I'm also curious as well. I have a 4000 grit abralon pad that I used yesterday on my Black Widow. I just did two sides for about 30 seconds each. I wonder how long they last?

This has been hashed many times and it comes down to one thing,IMO, how much pressure you use. I have some pads that have lasted 15-20 balls, not that much pressure and they are the 360-500 range. The 180's won't last as long, 2000 and 4000's last a long time, again, depending on the pressure you apply.

One thing I do that, I think, makes them last longer, when cleaning them after use, I use a nail brush to get any particles out of the 'weave'. Not sure if this really helps, but I think it does so I'll continue to do it that way.

Additionally, make sure to keep them "clean" after use, washing any coverstock residues out of the abrasive surface under flowing water. Will improve overall performance and endurance a lot.

Applied pressure during use is another big influence, azguy is correct. When using a spinner, only apply gentle but continuous pressure, as if you wnated to hold a bird in your hand. The pad will do its job almost on its own, especially the fine ones. Just make sure to have enough water involved in the sanding process.
