I bought my vertex about June 2003, after 5 years of what I consider decent use, the cup separated from the shaft. The ball would spin until I put any pressure, then the cup would stop spinning, but the shaft/gears/motor were still turning.

so I called Vertex hoping to order another cup and shaft, but instead Doug said ship it to me and I will take care of it. I happily paid for shipping and a few days ago I got a call from Doug saying that the cup had been replaced and it shipped.

Talk about amazing customer service, so if your thinking about a spinner, or on the cusp of deciding between donkee/jayhawk/vertex, go with a vertex, you will not be disappointed!

I had a similar experience with Doug and my 1/3 hp Vertex. Have had it for almost 6 years now. All I paid for was shipping to him. With Vertex there are no regrets at all; they're still guaranteed even when used in a pro shop environment! That says it all.

This is kind of what they used to say about MayTag appliances.

I have the Vertex 2/3 or 1/2, the bigger one. I hope they release a 2 speed at an affordable price. I'd like to try polishing on the high speed.

you can try changing the big 8" pulley to a 6" pulley, that would bump the revs up to about 575rpms.

or you can try changing the 2" pulley to a 3" to get 646rpm. but this also changes the amperage.

you'll also need a new belt.

anyways....I don't recommend upping the revs. I actually like the 435rpm for all my ball maintenance, one of the big reasons the donkees wobble is because of the high speed. if you can get a high polish off of 435rpms... your using the wrong polish or your doing something wrong.

if you can't get a good high shine off of 435 rpm's your doing something wrong.

In general, the finer you sand the ball, the easier it is to get a higher gloss polish on the ball. You don't need very high spinner speed and you should not use a lot of hand pressure.

As an example, do not sand a ball to 320 and then use Beans polish or Storm's Xtra SHine and expect to get a super high gloss with tons of hand pressure. Do sand it to 1000 grit or 2000 grit and use Beans or Storm's or Brunswick's High gloss and use medium pressure.

when i bought my spinner from doug he told me that torque is what you need
for polishing. He used an example of a drag racing car doing a burnout, In first gear, they clean the tires with alcohol and heat em up. He told me your hand with the rag and polish in your hand is the pavement so just use pressure. made sense to me. Does this make any sense?

depends on the power/torque of the motor and how much hand pressure you apply. You don't want to apply enough for even a hint of slowing down that motor!! Some people are strong and some just get stupid macho about it UNTIL they have to pay to replace one of those motors.

"Firm" is a far as I'd want to go. Keep in mind that mine is 1/3 hp and many people do have 1/2 hp motors. Still caution rules.

I've never been able to stop the motor by pressing down, I use a nice firm pressure and I can feel the rag getting super hot underneath my hand.
