A while back one of our regulars (I believe it was azguy) suggested using used Abralon or Siaair pads as polish applicators. He said he did it to save money.
I have been trying this lately, over the last several months, using the back, the foam side of the pad (Please don't use the abrasive side to apply polish or anything else 
) to apply polish and abrasive liquids, like Valentino's Resurrection. It's not just cost savings, they seem to make much better applicators of such liquids than most other cloths or plain sponges or paper towels which rip apart.

SO I soaked it in water, applied some dishwasher soap, rubbed it a little bit with my fingers to get everything out of it under warm/hot water and soon it was good as new. A new applicator. They're easy to handle, easy to hold to the shape of the ball and easy to re-use over and over. Try it!

I've read about doing this, but never think about it when ever I polish my ball and use a Meguires foam polishing applicator instead. I'll tape a note to my Valentino's Snake Oil so that I'll remember to try the Abralon Pad the next time I polish a ball.

I use the old ones like this too. They work very well. A sharpie on the abrasive side shows up and allows you to label each one with the polish it is used for as well as being a helpful reminder of which side NOT to use.
Also, something I have found is soaking old ones in a bucket of hot water or even better yet running them through a dishwasher removes old sanding debris and brings them back to life somewhat. I use these when resurfacing after plug work or just to knock the shine off a ball before bringing it back up. Not sure how hard it is on the washer but I use the one at the bowling alley that the owner washes golf balls in.

I think I'll stick with hand washing them. We have our own septic system and I'd rather not put too many odd things in it. My leftover pads are usually the 4000 grit ones. The rougher ones I move down the line (1000 >> 1500 >> 2000 >> 4000 grit) as they get worn, as long as I have some idea where they are, with respect to one another. 4000s put a shine on the ball, easily seen, when they are too worn.

I agree that I would be hesitant to run them through my own washer charlest. As I said, the old washer at the center gets all kinds of odd stuff run through it so when I'm washing my aprons and rags I send them for a spin too. It does do a much better job than hand washing them and so may be worth a trip to the local laundromat with a bag full of them.
Just sayin'.

For a long time now, i've used my worn out abralon pads on their back sides as polishing applicators.It works so well and last so long. You can use one for diffferent types of polishing liquids. After using it the first time, i just spray water and use it over and over because they retain the residual after applying the first time.
