I tried Resurrection on a Lanemasters particle ball. As some of you might know, Lanemasters "sheen" finish on many of their particles balls is one of the most difficult finishes to restore on any ball. As the first test of Resurrection, I sanded a Big Kahuna to 600 grit and then applied Resurrection to a clean terry cloth facecloth. With the spinner and a couple of dsollops of Resurrection and about 2 minutes on the spinner, the cover was as close as I have gotten to their "sheen" in a long time in 2 steps: sanding and Resurrection.

When I first used it, I used a little too much pressure and too much time and I forced a bit of shine on the ball. I'd guess the abrasive breaks down, as they all do with too much pressure. The 2nd time, I applied just medium pressure and it came out very well.

Next I applied Valentino's Snake Oil to the BK. I knew the sheen would be too early for the condition on which I was going to use it. No being sure how hard to press or how much shine was going to result, I applied it by hand, rubbing firmly, with the ball only sitting on the spinner cup. Then I buffed it off with a clean towel and did the same for the other side.

The resulting shine was not a gloss but definitely a shine that will add some distance. I liken it to what we used to call a "compound polish" or 1000 grit polish. This got me the length I expected, not a lot more, but it was where I wanted to stop.

Next test will be a spinner applied polish - stay tuned for the next exciting installment, Space Rangers!

Thanks for the comments Jeff, our products match up very nicely with LM surfaces, so you picked a good ball to test it out on.

Snake Oil on a spinner is deadly, a tacky 1500 grit shine (or 2500to3500 with hard pressure) really puts that snappy kick back into any polished or pearl ball. Can't wait to here your analysis.

Kevin,

You would be wise to acquire Jeff as an employee or staffer. He is among the best regarding surface knowledge and preparation...and just not on ballreviews.com, but probably in the bowling industry...and I know some pretty good coverstock gurus. I have learned alot from Jeff on here and continue to be amazed at his knowledge.

He would be a great asset to your business.

How you bowl, maybe or maybe not, is your importance. Your knowledge on covers, adjustments and willingness to 'go against the flow' is what makes you "Cover King".

Jeff is the Coverstock Guru.

If Jeff received the products for free, I would make him say ONLY good things. I want his and everyone's responses to be genuine and unbiases.  As of now we don't have any stafferes, but Jeff will be at the top of the list when we do.

We have alot of things planned in the future and our followers will be rewarded.

I was pretty skeptical at first, but today I tested the Snake Oil on my Absolute Inferno. I have tried many different brands, and simply put, don't believe I've seen anything better.

Just a small dab (quarter size?) on the towel using the spinner at higher speed for each side of the ball. Then buffed the rest of the ball. Didn't apply much pressure.

Tried it on a fresh house shot to be certain the back ends were clean, and the first ball went Brooklyn. Easy length, but the ball gripped the lane and really finished hard. Moved about 4 & 2 inside and expected the ball to finish light, but it still crushed the pocket.

As far as I'm concerned any polish can make the ball shiny, but for me the best ones allow the ball to grip the lane and finish strong without being "squirty" or too speed sensitive. I moved around on the lane to see if I could find a reason to not love this stuff, but can't. In checking the website the price looks rather good, too. I'd better be ordering a quart or so real soon.

On edit, another "plus" is that the product isn't too runny, which should mean less waste.

We weren't kidding about Snake Oil putting the backend bite back into the ball.

notclay/Lane,

One reason I like Snake Oil is that it doesn't change the underlying grit level of the ball on which you're working. This means a greater level of control over the final results. A 2nd reason was that it did add shine to a ball when used my hand. Very often I only want a small change to a ball to add length I don't want it to go 20 feet further before snapping uncontrollably.

This used to be a major problem with some pro shops when you had to go to them for surface changes: if you wanted the ball to hook earlier, they sanded it to 400 grit. If you wanted a little more length, you go a super high gloss polish that made the ball go 59 feet and make a left turn. There was no inbetween.

charlest,

Agreed. If someone really wanted to gloss up a ball with the Snake Oil, it could be done without a question. The nice thing is that you probably have the option of using a slower speed, less hand pressure, less water, any number of ideas and really fine tune the reaction. I'm not a fan of someone using any polish by hand, but sometimes they may not be close to a pro shop or spinner, so that may warrant it's use that way on occasion. I'm spoiled as far as spinners go. Ours is very nice.

As of late I haven't used too much polish because of the "extreme" changes on the lane (length and less predictable move) so I've been using more surface underneath the various polishes or compounds to help the ball's read on the lane.

This time (Snake Oil) I just added it to a ball that was around 2000 grit, and didn't notice much, if any, change in getting to my breakpoint, which surprised me. But when the ball turned the corner it was on "steroids". Very strong, but it seemed like it was under control. I'm going to try it later this week on a few more balls, but my first impression is TWO THUMBS UP.

By the way, the Abolute that I used it on is pretty new (maybe 25 games) so I'd like to try it on a ball that has lots of games on it as a comparison to the other products, too.

I tried the Snake Oil on my Fury solid last night, again on a freshly oiled pair so I can compare the ball reaction to what I'm accustomed to seeing in league play.

So far It's on two entirely different balls, and I have nothing but good things to say still. I have recommended it to another friend who asked my thoughts about it since he has a sample coming, too.

Needless to say, I just got off the phone with Kevin and ordered a quart for the pro shop. Stay tuned...
