Wear and tear from a new HPL surface?

I had previously posted this under Brunswick because it affected my Brunswick Slide. Now it has also affect my Lanemasters Buzz. Both balls, after a mere 3-6 games on a new (less than 2 years old) AMF HPL synthetic surface, need to be repolished, not just refreshed.

Supposedly the oil is out to 41 feet in length, according the local USBC lane rep.

I have not run across this.  Are you seeing a lot of friction in the backend when the ball comes off the oil pattern?  Is the polish off of the entire ball surface or just the track area?  Trying to see if some other factor is in play like ball return equipment.

I think that is it, but the "burn" or the way the polish seems to be dulled without scratches makes me wonder.

A guy subbed with my team. Dave has lots of revs, lots of tilt, slow speed (VERY bad knees) and uses very mild polished balls: a Razyr and a polished black Angle for spares. He was misisng 10 pins with the ANgle, hooking away to the inside. He has a 209 - 226 average, so he doesn''t miss 10 pins very much. He was talking to the USBC lane rep, the one who measured the 41 feet, while we bowled. He told him he could see how they were possibly applying 41 feet of oil. Dave was not a happy camper.

Gary,

Just the track and flare are, where the ball contacts the lane is affected. The Buzz has about 2-3" of flare and that section is the wear area.

What center was this?

The only other center I've seen besides Circle Lanes that had lane surfaces cause immediate tracking was the Brunswick on RT130 in the Cranbury area.

But that place has guardian heads and without oil that's to be expected.

Circle supposedly is using the Main Street pattern but last Wednesday there was no oil in the heads at all and without lofting the ball it would roll instantly.

My Crisis pearl also needs a refreshing and a repolishing after less than one game there.

Are you talking about Curtis Suburban Lanes? (Where Jeff S. practiced a few times) That's on Scotch road in Ewing township, just south of Rt 95.

Circle's synthetics are pretty beat up. I'll take a look at the Crisis Pearl before I adjust the surface.

It's not Carolier some other bowling alley further south of that.  Could possibly be Heightstown but it's a small house.  Brunswick actually left and now it's just called bowling recreational center or something like that.
