what cleaner...
« on: December 28, 2003, 02:39:43 AM »
my track freak out just isn't finishing on the backend like it used to and needs a good cleaning.  Does anyone know what polish/cleaner would get the ball back to where it was?  i was thinking of either using track's magic shine or storm's mega bite.  If anyone has used either, what was your experience and did it help?

A cleaner really will not help you very much, it will give you a little bit back, but you'd be better off going for a rejouvanation or a good sanding. But I really dont know about your ball or anything, talk to your pro-shop guy. He can help

Well it all depends..Some cleaners really bring a ball back to life..I mean not totaly but can bring back a good amount..How many games do you have on it and does it have a significant track in the ball..If it hasa lot of games and significant track id say resurace it..But like Thebowlingkid said check your proshop and see what he says.

Bob, the freak out comes with 1000 grit finish and mine has around 200-225 games on it with no real visible track yet.  I regularly clean it with a simple green concoction so I figured I should get it with some real ball cleaner.

I won't swear to this, but I "think" Mr. Buzzsaw UK said something along the line that if a person will clean their ball good until their rag comes off clean white and then coat the ball real good with Neo Tech's "Hook-It" and leave it on the ball over night to soak in (don't wipe it off after applying it)that it will remove oil from down in the ball that cleaners or soap and warm water won't do. He said that regardless of whether you have a dull ball or polished ball, the Hook-It will not change the surface nor remove the shine/polish.

Please correct me, anyone, if this is not correct.

Hook-It should NOT be left on the ball, as it is very strong. Follow the instructions on the bottle! There have been cases where people have had Hook-It open up (spill) in their bowling bags and ruined many items, it seems to like to "eat" plastic.

MTFD24, I believe Mr. Buzzsaw UK will disagree with you as I "think" he does this all of the time. I could be wrong, but don't think I am. I will take an old ball and do this to see if it does or does not hurt the ball. The bottle does say to keep off inserts...Think about it....If it would hurt the ball, they wouldn't make it and tell you to put on the ball in the first place. The bottle doesn't say "failure to wipe off ball immediately will damage ball."

MTFD24 and Channel Surfer

First let me say that I have some Hook-It, but have not tried it yet. The two of you are making assumption statements. You have no proof that it hurts the ball to leave it on and neither do I, but you don't hear me saying it will hurt the ball if you leave it on, or I'm surprised it is legal as it is pretty much the same as Paint Thinner, which is another assumption on your part. It is approved by ABC/WIBC so it is not the same as "Paint Thinner."

Now, what I said about it is what I "think" Mr.Buzzsaw UK said as he uses it once a month on his balls and has done so for quite some time without harming them. I have Emailed him to see exactly what he said. You don't hear me saying that it is "this" or "that" and you won't at this point because I don't know and neither do either of you.

Better yet, why don't the two of you Email Neo-Tac and put the question to them and see exactly what they say. I can't find their Email address  or I would, and I can't call them because I have a hearing handicap.

Sorry for my getting so wound up fellows, but it doesn't set right with me on anything that someone "ASS/U/MEs", because they have no facts or proof.

IEQ
You are another person talking on assumptions. Yes, the bottle says not to get on Vinyl Inserts. You are correct there. I never said it was OK to get on the inserts. However on the rest of what I said, you don't know what you are talking about because you have no proof and you don't know and are posting on "assumptions"....And neither do I and you have not seen me post "I know."

I am not supporting leaving the Hook-It on overnite, nor am I condeming it. I have only reported here what I "think" someone else that uses it all the time said.....And I have said that I have Emailed him for exactly what he said and I have also asked for people like your self to contact Neo-Tac because I can't find an Email address and I am "hearing impaired" and can't talk on the phone. Otherwise, I would call them myself and reported my findings on this site. I will copy and paste on this site Mr. Buzzsaw UK's exact words when I hear back from him.

If you call Neo-Tac and they tell you this leaving it on overnite will damage the ball, thats OK with me. I have no problem with that. I never did say it wouldn't hurt to leave on over night.

Geezzz, if everyone would read exactly what I said in my posts to this Topic, it would save all of us time and typing. Find proof. Find results. Then post real information and not assumptions. Also, you wrote:
------------------------------------------------------------

BTW it says right on the bottle, Do not store rags used to clean ball ON the ball. Wonder why it says that?

-IEQ
------------------------------------------------------------

IEQ, something is wrong with your eyes. Go back and read what the bottle says again and you will find that it says:.... "Do not store paper towels on or in your bowling equipment." It doesn't say bowling balls, it says bowling equipment.

I refuse to post on this Topic any more at this time as I don't care to argue without facts and I don't have them and neither do you. You are free to say what you want, but I won't respond until I have proof one way or another.

I do own a bottle of Hook-It, but have never used it, may never use it, and I really don't care whether or not I ever use it as I use Doc's Elixir to keep the oil out of my balls, so I really don't need the bottle of Hook-It....No, I didn't buy it. It was given to me by the Pro Shop Operator whom received sample bottles from Neo-Tac to pass out.

Actually im postivite. We had hook it tested in a lab. Its pretty much the same has paint thinner. Which explains the reason for eating plastic. ANd therefore.. No, dont leave it on the ball.

Channel did you test it on a Reactive Reisn Bowling ball or a Particle ball???

Sure, it will eat up a plastic ball, because a plastic ball is plastic.

Damn, why do I keep arguing with you "assumers" when I don't give a hoot whether it does or does not eat up a Reactive or Particle bowling ball as I don't use it and have no intentions of using it at this time as long as I can continue buying Doc's Magic Elixir.

Do not use any cleaner that promotes tackiness. It picks up more dirt and oil. Just clean the Super Freak with Renew-it or Track Clean and Dull with clean strong paper towels. Then clean it with alcohol. The final touch will be with Docs Magic Elixir  go to http://home.attbi.com/~docsmagic/.

The Elixir's main purpose is to slow down and virtually eliminate oil absorption into todays new high tech expensive coverstocks. This is accomplished by a chemical process that does not affect the overall performance of the coverstock. It allows all coverstocks to function as they were intended whether Particle, Reactive Resin or Urethane. Whether the coverstock is polished or dull the Elixir.

Then you are set for the night.
