I've had my LT-48 for awhile now, only have about 15 games on it. When I received it from buddiesproshop, the smell when opening the box took me by surprise. Strong acetone like smell.

After several touches on the surface, the smell is still there. Last night I worked on the ball's cover so I can use it tonight and the smell just bugged me.....the ball sat in storage for a month or so with the bag open. But the smell still remained.

The LT-48, seeing it on other ppls hands, doesn't seem to be the same ball. My LT-48, seems way earlier than those that have theirs. And I wonder if the chemical they used on this ball did something to the cover. I've tried the LT from OOB to several grits.

Last night, with this ball I didn't know what to do with the cover. So, I went on a "lets see what this does" mode with this ball. I put a 4k on it, to smooth out some scratches and add an underlying grit - placed BEANS SECRET Sauce over the grit. I forgot how shinny balls can get with SS. (forgot what finish/grit SS leaves, all guessing)

Finally, before I left this morning, I checked if the smell still remained after cleaning and surfacing the ball last night. It's still there...... what could they have used? And how do I get rid of the smell.

It's the ball, not anything they put on it. 

Yeah, Brunswick balls have had a certain... aroma the last couple of years. It's similar to what Motiv balls smell like fresh out of the box but not quite a strong.

I bought 2 Strike Kings & a Outcast over the past year and recently one Rhino.
None of them had much of a smell at all and I have decent sense of smell.

Do Radicals have the same "fragrance" problem?

Interesting. My Absolute Nirvana, Grudge Hybrid, and Mastermind Einstein have all had the same "strong" smell. Not that I think about it the Diva XOXO never really did though. Maybe the smell is masked with the polished balls? I don't know. It did come to mind that maybe the new "composite" technology (I think it's just a different resin mix) was behind it but if that was the case the XOXO would have the smell.

As far as I know the Radical balls don't. Phil said they're different formulations though. Brunswick provides the resin but the Radical guys pick their own coverstock mix (out of thousands of variables). So I guess that would make some sense. I get the feeling that Brunswick and DV8 balls are MUCH more closely related than either of those two to Radical balls.

On a serious note, Gene is right. The ball smells like really strong nail polish remover. It over powered the smell of my storm balls in the same bag.

Actually Bayer and BASF are German companies with branches and factories here in the US.  They are or were the 2 biggest supplies of resin to bowling ball companies at  one time. Who knows who the corporate players are today?

You may have jumped the gun there  bit.
The companies are German-owned, as far as I know, but I did say they had factories here in the US. I doubt if the resin comes from Europe; shipping would probably be prohibitive. I would assume they make the resin here in the US.

Like cars, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Subaru are all Japanese owned but many if not most of their cars sold in the USA are made in the USA.  I assume the same is True of Bayer and BASF: they're owned by Germans, but the resin sold here is probably made here in the USA.
