Extender Polish?
« on: July 30, 2008, 01:07:23 AM »
Hey coverstock folks.  Recently, I did all my pearl balls with Resurrection and Snake Oil.  The ball was tacky as what, lol.  I really like how consistent the reaction is; it's the same through and through.  What I need is a hair more length.  The balls have a tendency to star their movement a bit too early for what I was looking for.  I was thinking one of those extender polishes, just a light bit.  What are your experiences with these?

Thanks,
Steve

I used a light coat of Powerhouse Extender on my Sling Blade for the THS I normally roll on and it did give me the right amount of added length. It works well

I've used it and as long as you can do your 'trial and error' to find just the right pressure/amount used, it works great. JMO

Before you try those "extender" polishes, be aware that some of them are not just extra abrasive and more shine. SOme have hook retardants in them to reduced backend.

I'd suggest:
Since Resurrection finishes the ball around 800 grit, try sanding it to 1000, 1200 or 1500 grit and then adding your Snake Oil. This way you know exactly where you are, grit-wise.

With some of the "extender" polishes, it hard to remember exactly how much you applied and how hard you pressed for how long, if yo uneed to repeat the process.

That's not a bad idea Jeff.  Have you ever tried a 1000 Grit surface with Snake Oil?

I think I'm going to try that actually, I hadn't thought of it.

My Total NV is at 1000 abralon + Snake Oil applied by hand.  I wanted to get something with some pop on the back, but something smooth and controllable at the same time.  I love the reaction that gives me!

charlesT hit the nail on the head, what you'll want to do it bump the surface to 1000 or 1200, then use Snake Oil. Also, if you tuck your pinky, un-tuck it! All the coaches I've had said it can create anywhere from 1/2 to a full rev.

No, but my needs, my balls, my coverstocks, my lanes, etc are different from yours.

Try a worn grey nylon pad and remember, NOT "P1000" and NOT 1000 grit Abralon.

I hate pinky tucking.  I tried it like, 3 times and it failed miserably, lol.  I never got any more revs, I in fact got no noticeable difference, except a bruised knuckle, lol.  I'm going to invest in a few sand paper sheet things, or could I use 2k Abralon, and go nuts next time I'm near a spinner.

If you've got a Harbor Freight close by they have wet/dry Silica Carbide sandpapers in 400 to 5000, and all 5 scrotch-brite pads for a good price.
