Ric,

I have seen more abrasive nylon (probably Scotch-Brite) pads in the paint section of hardware stores, but I don't know what their grit level is. They are very heavy duty and maybe as low as 150 or 100 grit. I have bought them but I only use them on rust or really heavy, really old paint.

I understand about your not wanting to dull the particles, but I still wouldn't use anything as low as 220 grit on anything unless I were doing a total re-surface on a ball that's been tracked out. Up to that point, the Burgundy, which is 320-400 grit, should suffice.

Ric Clint -- I looked through the Grizzly Industrial closeout catalog on the web today and found Green Scuff-Rite® Pad 150 Grit and Maroon Scuff-Rite® Pad 280 Grit for 75 cents each (shipping charges may make small quantities quite expensive).  Note that these are not Scotchbrite pads, but appear to be a similar product from a different manufacturer.  The link to the catalog follows.  Click on abrasives & sanding then click on scuff pads.  --  JohnP
