(r)eVolve indepth
« on: September 15, 2014, 07:48:56 AM »
When I saw the release of (r)eVolve  I knew it was my next purchase. I have a home proshop setup that is used primarily for me and family along with a few friends here and there. Many times people get disappointed with local shops because they feel rushed or ignored when it comes to purchasing and maintaining a bowling ball. As a hobby I enjoy and always look to better myself when it comes to bowling and proshop knowledge. The opportunity to go to many of the drilling classes around the country has never been fees-able for my interest and hobby of what I do.  Time off work plus travel not to mention the $$$$ of the class really adds up. Another option would certainly be welcomed.

Upon arrival of the (r)eVolve packet (book with dvd and disc of power point presentation) I was extremely excited and couldn't wait to start reading. The information available and depth of knowledge getting started on fitting a bowler was great. There are always so many questions that come with this process and what seems to be a million different answers and "theories" that are sold or pushed. This takes an easy to understand approach with lots of details on things to look for and why, and how this relates to the bowler/individual which often gets over looked. Bowlers are individuals and are all different. The natural progression from fitting to understanding todays equipment and the relevance of technology and how to weed through some of the smoke and mirrors of todays bowling balls sales gimmicks to better match a bowler to the ball needed for their style and conditions is very refreshing. The depth of coverage on drilling, weight holes, and coverstock prep is very helpful. It really gives you a better idea of what to look for after drilling and how to make tweaks to the bowling ball to better match up for the given bowler and more importantly changing environment the bowler is facing.

Start to finish is a very in-depth look at the things bowlers and proshop workers need to know for being more successful with their customers. Very informative.

Justrico posted about it back in July:

Available Aug 1st
HYBC's newest release
(r)eVolve ~ HYBC's pro shop technical manual & DVD covering fitting & ball motion

www.HYBowlingConcepts.com

From Facebook

HY Bowling Concepts I've had a few inquiries and guess should give a little more info on (r)eVolve It's split into 2 books...each side being it's own book-one on fitting and the other on ball motion. It's just under 200 pages and covers a better, easier understanding of both...smarter ways to look at each...as is always our (HYBC's) goal, to explain in ways so everyone on all levels can understand. There are plenty of pictures and diagrams for easier perception or grasp of the material. The accompanying DVD has visual examples of varying ball motions, as well as varying degrees of rev rates and games, to give shop guys an easier, better understanding of these parts for layouts purposes and dealing with customers easier. We understand the price may seem steep, at first to some, but when considering the material, it's really a bargain and if one goes to HOTS or IBPSIA, you can look at spending $1000-3000 plus expenses for similar info. Hopefully this explains it better for anyone interested. Thanks

I have been in the pro shop business for 16 years now and currently 8 years as an owner. Back in 1998, I was certified through IBPSIA and I do believe it was $1800.00. At that time I thought that was quite pricey and is much more expensive now. Feeling that I am the leader in the pro shop business in my area to include the state of Wyoming, I am always looking to better myself in order to give my customers the best service available. I have known Ric for about 14 years of my pro shop tenure and utilize him for information whenever I am at a dead end or whenever I have an idea and looking for reassurance.
After purchasing and reading his first book Head Games, I was excited when he told me they were releasing a second book, (r)eVolve. After receiving and reading (r)eVolve, I can honestly say that it is a must read for any pro shop operator that wants credibility. (r)eVolve has a couple of advantages. The first advantage being that it addresses ball fitting from a different angle. For me being IBPSIA trained/certified, (r)eVolve gave me the little bit of information I was missing allowing me to perfect my ball fitting for my customers. You see a lot of schools/manuals out there that teach cookie cutter fitting.
Example: When I was trained by IBPSIA, they did not stress (left/right)(under/away) pitch in the thumb, they trained everything to be 0. I always disagreed with this and pitched thumbs to what I saw with my customers hands and how there hand laid naturally in the ball. (r)eVolve validated my thinking.
The second advantage of (r)eVovle is layouts. There are way too may so called drillers out there that think they know layouts. (r)eVolve is a must read on layouts as it covers all aspects in choosing the correct ball for a customer and applying a proper layout.
The price you pay for the large amount of information is money well spent for any pro shop looking to better themselves. If I have one customer that improves their game from applying the information I gathered from (r)eVolve then it was money well spent.

Is What?

The website seems out of date and doesn't list it (or even mention it) and the Facebook page doesn't say.

I've had my copy for a month now and just haven't had time to get through it yet, I'm on the final few pages of the fitting section.  I've reserved my own review until I actually complete it, though so far it's overwhelmingly positive and I have no doubts it will continue that way.  My absolute favorite thing about both Head Games and now (r)eVolve is that there is zero fluff or filler.  They could have made both two or three times the size, with a bunch of pomp and circumstance and arrogance, but these are just a couple guys with a ton of experience that are excited to share what they know.  They simply present their credentials, and get right into it.  They say so much with so few words, and the best part is they didn't come up with some wild "new" fitting or layout technique, they just explain concepts, present facts and logic, and completely leave the execution up to you with a few recommendations or suggestions.  They just present common sense truths.

Whether or not they intended it this way, Head Games and (r)eVolve compliment each other extremely well.  (r)eVolve is like doing work at the gym, and Head Games is like the cool down and stretching.  Both also have a lot of "replay value."  Part of the reason I haven't gotten through (r)eVolve yet is that I've gone back and reread a few things several times.  The concepts are super easy to grasp and understand, but as your brain absorbs it all, if you go back and read a section over and over again, the information will hit you in a different way and you'll get more out of it, or see something you didn't "see" before.  Also it's kind of a foreign experience to read something that has no fluff and doesn't waste words . . if you find yourself starting to skim, you're gonna miss some important stuff.  I'll post my "official review" here in a few days, hopefully I'll have some time to finish it and watch the dvds.
