Standard Finger Pitch ?
« on: October 10, 2006, 03:36:00 AM »
Hello all, I was curious what pitches you guys normally use in the fingers to keep them from meeting at the bottom? Just wandering if everyone used the same pitch or if it varied somewhat?

3/8" on the middle finger and 1/2" on the ring when drilling for finger inserts...  It may be a little excessive, but I have never had any trouble.

For no finger inserts it used to be 0 middle and 5/8 on the ring.

Once inserts came into being many then put 1/8 middle and 5/8 ring.
or 1/4 middle and 1/2 ring.

Now many drillers just go 3/8 3/8.  (seems easiest to do).  Anything near a total of 5/8 to 3/4 total space seems to keep the fingers from meeting except for deeper than standard holes(over 1 1/2 inches).  Tweaks are then often made for wear or rubbing....for example if it wears on the inside of ones ring and one is right handed the pitch would be moved slightly to the left from wear it is and the rubbing occurring.

My driller says it really depends on finger direction!

I usually use 1/4 for middle and 3/8 for ring with a bridge distance of 5/16".

WOW!  That's the widest bridge I've ever heard of, if you're talking about the actual distance between the drilled holes.  1/4" to 3/8" is more normal.  If you drill a 5/8" bridge for use with grips, the actual bridge width after the grips are inserted will be right at a full inch.  --  JohnP

Oops.  I meant that the bridge is 5/16" not 5/8".  My bad.  Scott
