3 Piece Ball-6 Inches from PAP
« on: April 30, 2014, 12:00:31 PM »
My PAP is 4 11/16 Right and 1/2 Up.
My question is on a 15 lbs 3-piece bowling ball (where the CG is on the same spot as the Pin or very close), Is it possible to drill it with Pin 6 inches from PAP which will put the Pin and CG somewhere above the middle finger and still be legal within 1 ounce finger weight? Of course with the help of 1 1/4 balance hole if necessary.

Thanks for the input ;)

anything is possible. what ball is it and what are you trying to accomplish here? whatever ball you are talking about would be VERY mellow. if you have 3pc ball that you want to use for strikes i would suggest the PBA plastic ball layout

Scout Reactive or Storm Mix. I ask local driller and he told me that it will be over the limit on finger weight. I am trying to use the ball for dry lane condition.

With that type of ball you gotta be careful putting the pin that close to your track it could invert the flare

Agree with the above statement. I just laid out a ball for myself with my favorite layout of pin 5 inches from pap above middle finger cg stacked negative. longer pins place the cg in my palm. this particular ball was a 1" pin weaker 2 piece ball. Still was able to drill the middle finger deep enough and ring finger/thumb shallow enough to get it within static weight limits.

If you must use one of these 2 balls,

Put the CG in grip center, drill the fingers and thumb to china to get out as much of the pancake as you can, then hit the surface with a polish with a slip agent. Pin doesn't matter on a 3 piece pancake weightblock.

There is "normal" or average purpose to putting the pin that far on a what is already a very high RG ball with a very tiny differential.  It's a waste of the driller's talent and a waste of your time and worry about almost nothing. See Impending Doom's comments.
