Title: Adding weight back to ball...
Post by: ParoxysM on May 02, 2004, 11:57:19 AM
Let me start out by saying I dont bowl in tournaments. The ball I have is over 10 yrs old. It's a 15lb Columbia 300. Instead of purchasing a new ball, I wanted to add weight as close to 16lbs as possible. I dont have any professional bowling tools, but have a drill press. If there is a web link someone could point me to that would be ideal...Im sure someone has done this before. Thanks.

There's plenty of outside the rules ways to stick a lb of weight in a ball!!, i'm afraid you might have to stick with 15lb or open up the wallet.

Impossible to add weight and keep the ball legal.
If its something to mess around with, I would try adding carbide to one of the holes.

I have tried to add a 1" steel sphere (about 2 oz) to the ball to add extra top and finger weight for test (want to know if someone's ball is illegal) the motion of the ball is very different, just like you hava a very high rg ball in the back end, the ball will go to a very angular turn even it is throw by a slow speed woman !

That's the stuff you scrape off wet/dry sandpaper, but first you have to remove the silicon. That can be used separately to increase the size of your girl friend's _________.

We once took a bunch of lead balancing weights from car tires and cut them really small drilled an axis hole and filled the ball up to give it like 3 oz of side then put ball plug in it.  Talk about rolling like crap.

ParoxysM -- The bottom line is that it is impossible to legally (by ABC rules) add this amount of weight to a ball.  No legitimate ball driller is going to recommend a procedure that will result in an illegal ball.  --  JohnP

That's nothing doc...I had one with a heavy lead weight and a portion of a pool ball in it (don't ask...just a dumb idea we came up with).  When finished the ball had 6 oz's of side weight in it!!!  Damn thing never hooked...just kind of laughed at us as it went down the lane.  But it was a good conversation piece!
