Question about a span change
« on: August 22, 2004, 11:29:27 AM »
I bought a used Uranium pearl set up with the pin right and aprx. in line with the ring finger, and The CG is on the grip centerline. I need to shorten the span on it about 1/2" to fit my hand. I assume that to do this I would just have the thumb plugged and moved up ?

If that is correct, my question is, how if at all, would shortening the span like this effect the reaction of the ball ?.

Thanks in advance for your smart answers to my stupid questions.

I agree with Waywood on what he said. For me it would be perfect after moving thumb thus putting the CG in thumb quadrant as with my lower revs, I need help getting the ball to rev in mid-lane and that would help.

I prefer move finger instead of thumb and drill the finger holes not too deep (around 1 1/4 deep) which intend to add finger weight a slightly.

The most important factor by far is to have the pin placed where you want/need it to be. The difference in thumb or finger weight will be so neglible that, if you threw it before and after, you would not be able to see it. Whereas, if you changed the pin position and threw it before and after, you would be able to see the difference. The effect of 1/2" of CG movement with respect to changes in thumb or finger weight and its final effect on dynamic cored balls can virtually be ignored.
