Looking to get some advice here. I am thinking about taking an older ball of mine and doing a plug/redrill on it that will leave the pin and cg in the stacked position, but on the left side of my grip.

Not sure what my pap is anymore, but just wondered in general what effect this would have on a ball in relation to the pin and cg being on the right side of the grip.

I've been around lots of balls, even used to work in the shop here some, but don't think I've ever seen anyone throw a ball like this. I will try to give a diagram:

I am thinking about putting the cg as far out as I can without having to use an x-hole because I don't want an x-hole on the track (flaring) side of the ball, just to make sure it wont hit any holes when/if it flares.

The ball I am going to use is an old A.M.F. Black Ninja. Not sure of the topweight (yet), but ball has a 3-4 pin. I wanted to use a pearl coverstock, but didn't have one available, so I figured with its age, this coverstock would be a bit mild and I am going to have it polished up pretty good after drilling.

I know without my exact spec you can't do anything but speculate, but that is what I am doing anyway. I just want to know what to expect from a drilling like this in juxtaposition to a "normal" drilling.

I use an Ebonite Tornado Warning pearl ( yes, tornado WARNING ) as my main ball ( pretty dry here and I've got too much hand ), but after the first two games, carrydown keeps it from picking up a hard roll. I was thinking this drill might induce lots of length and still allow very late flare to cut through the carrydown just enough to allow the ball to hit hard, or at least hard enough to get the corner (10 pin ) out.

I don't need much ball, I think I need the flare more than anything else to help, but I also need a ton of length. I've been told that I could hook a ball going uphill on ice, but that is what is natural for me, so I am going to try to work with it instead of fighting it.

I had a Big hit pearl with a similar drilling but stacked under the middle finger and a 2" pin. I got a really nice midlane read when the ball was sanded. When I polished the ball it got down the lane and had a nice even move in the back end.

In general negative weight in the ball will make the ball want to start up a little sooner and create a smooth breakpoint and the pin being far from you PAP with help reduce any flare the ball may have.

if your are polishing the you should get the length and a nice smooth break for a controlled reaction. Based on what you said about hooking the ball you should like this layout as it works great on fresh THS and wet/dry conditions

I would imaging that since the pin is so far from your PAP (assuming around a 5"), you would be getting very little flare, so you'd be taking the core almost entirely out of play. The cover would be the only factor and I'd guess you'd get a more urethane like reaction.

I actually have a Roto Grip Retro Red that I picked up used from a lefty with a near stacked leverage layout. Since his grip is pretty close, I plan on throwing it some before plugging so I can get a general feel for the strength of the ball. But my driller has been ill for quite a while, so it hasn't been a priority. I do have a Tsunami that I drilled on top of a lefty's label leverage layout. It's extremely smooth and arcy, but it's kind of allergic to oil and hates even mild carry down.
