MB 4-5 inches right of thumb?
« on: December 07, 2008, 07:39:05 AM »
I sold my buddy my Venom and told him to have just have the thumb plugged.  It was drilled pin under ring MB just right of the thumb.  The guy that plugged and redrilled it for him did a full plug for some reason and put the pin above the ring and kicked the MB out at least 4 inches right of the thumb.  This seems kind of over the top to me and I can't understand why he would do against what my friend told him to do.  He doesn't even know the PAP or any other relevant information.  My friend's PAP and overall game is pretty similar to mine so there really wasn't a reason to move anteing, especially that drastically.

My question is... what is this going to do to the reaction of the ball?  Will it still be usable or should we go in and kick the guy in the nuts and tell him to fix the mess.  I just can't for the life of me figure it out.

It's like this...

....o....
..O.O..cg
..........
...O.......MB

That will cause a really late strong reaction that could burn out way too early if the back ends are flying.
Having seen one thrown by a medium rev player on the THS it does have a late, strong move.I can only imagine what it would do if your friend has high/higher revs.

He should have done what you asked, and I wouldn't pay him any more than what that would have cost, but hold the kick until after he throws it to see if he likes it.  --  JohnP

Did you happen to talk to your buddy to see if maybe him and his driller discussed the previous layout. Maybe that old layout was not very good for your buddies release or style and this is what they decided on.

Yeah I talked to him.  He actually wanted it drilled similar to his BW Solid which it would have been if it was kept the way it was originally laid out.  I have no idea if the driller misunderstood him or not.  The worst part was he went to throw it today while were we at the pot games and one of the finger grips came out and went flying down the lane.  The guy forgot to glue the in.  Honestly I parially blame it on my friend as the guy really isn't a great driller and charges a lot less than anyone else, which is why he went there.  Still though, the driller should know what he's doing and at least pay attention to the customer.  Who knows.  Maybe it won't turn out too bad for him, now that I have the finger grips glued in.

"Long and Strong" That's Ebonite's recommended drill(Drill#1) for asym. equipment when PAP is not known which is why the driller probably did it that way. Don't think I have ever heard of a ball being drilled up without any input from the customer. My advice, "Run Forest Run"
