How much pitch should I add

I currently use a short span compared to what the book would say.  As of late I have been topping the ball because I am losing the ball and turning early.  The only way i can correct this is by adding tape until my thumbhole is really tight and then I lose some revolutions from friction and find it inconsistent.  my question is how much more forward pitch should i use in the thumb?

At the present time I have 1/8 reverse in the thumb.  I am thinking i should try adding 3/8 forward for a pitch of 1/4 forward.  Will this make a big difference or should i go more? I really am grabbing the ball lately.

In addition i have been having some pain right below the first knuckle on my middle finger. There is a lot of pressure put there when i throw it.  Should I add a little more reverse to the middle finger to reliever this a little?

You should go in stages so if you have to correct, it is easier. I would suggest going to 0 or an 1/8" change.
If you are over rotating this will cause issues with your middle finger. Your thumb does not release properly allowing you to be able to lift through the ball. Instead you are putting pressure on the middle finger by staying in the ball to long through the rotation.

The middle finger pressure is there even when im not swinging the ball when it is just resting in my hand.

If you have damaged the tendents or the knuckle, it will hurt even if it is correct. It's residual damage. It takes time for it to heal or not hurt.

If you are really squeezing hard, then you will notice a 1/8 change to zero.  Going all the way to 1/4 in one change, you will probably lock up in the ball.  I would probably go 1/8 forward change to zero, and try that for a week or so.

Also, how much bevel are you using?  Too much on the front will make you fly out also.

Agree on the tendon thing, if you have some damage it will hurt bowling or not.  Your finger pitches are a separate issue, adding reverse may relieve some pressure, but will also make the span feel a little shorter.  "I" would probably let the finger heal, maybe ease up on the amount you bowl for a few weeks.

After talking to my pro shop guy, we decided to go to 1/8 forward pitch in the thumb and back off to 0 later if it was too much.

After practicing the last two days with it, I am definitely not losing the ball anymore.  I am not sure though if I should back it off to 0.  How do you know if you are locking in it?  Obviously if the ball does not come off at all, however i have noticed I am coming around it a little more like a spinner instead of staying behind it, though my track has been raised like it used to be before I started losing the ball too early.  Would that be considered locking up a bit?

Should I add a little reverse pitch and go back to 0 in the thumb?

One more question is I have 1/8 forward in the fingers, if I were to add a little reverse to this would it help me to get a little less roll and a little more skid from my release?  I ask because when I have a ball that I hold on to well, I roll it a lot and when the lanes dry up I get into trouble.

P.S. Please don't respond saying I need to work on my release for some of the changes like I have heard before.  My release is good, I have had compliments on it from Team USA coaches, and exempt pros.  I am talking about small tweaks here.
