Help from the drill masters!
« on: February 28, 2008, 12:17:57 PM »
I have recently changed my release & I guess bowling style somewhat. I am trying more behind the ball with more forward roll & not so much side turn & hook.I have med speed & revs & my pap is 4 3/4 over & 1/2 up. I did have about 60 to 80* of axis rotation & 30 t0 35* of axis tilt. I have reduced rotation to about 45* or a little less & tilt to between 20 & 25*.
My question is, what type of layout would help me accomplish this type of ball roll without feeling like my hand is totally flat behind the ball. Is there any special layout & even ball specs like rg & differential that would be more conducive to forward roll type reaction. Hopefully you can understand what I'm wanting. Any helpfull advice is appreciated!

Well 45* of axis rotation isn't exactly forward roll.  There isn't really a layout that is going to help you.  There are layouts that might work better for your new style over your old.  You will probably need to use slightly weaker pins now to keep the ball from bleeding energy and stopping.  Nothing too drastic, but instead of a 4" pin...now you'd use a 5" pin to PAP.

Thanks guys, I'm just working on it. Started about 6 weeks ago. I know 45* is not end over end, but from where I was, it feels like it.

I am using weaker drilling on a couple balls, 6 1/4 pin to pap with pin under middle finger.

Deadbait, I am experiencing great ball roll & carry, but I was trying to cut down my tilt because I still only have about a 9 1/2" track circumference, & always struggled in heavy oil before.

So it's mainly my hand position & release that is going to accomplish my goal & not ball or layouts? Thanks again for the replies!
