Drilling out Pin
« on: March 06, 2006, 06:10:56 AM »
For the informed.  Question.  Does drilling out the pin and putting pin location under ring change the reaction in a ball?

Only to the extent that the pin is moved from the position you are comparing it to.  Actually, if you want a pin to PAP distance that puts the pin near a finger hole, you can avoid cracking by moving the pin to the hole position and drilling it all out.  --  JohnP

Just be sure to check the factory warranty to see if this would void it or not.  I thought it was a no-no with Brunswick stuff...but I could be wrong.

not true. I think just brunswick made balls because they Anchor system they use has a plastic base, which when drilled into breaks into pieces and could damage, or make a hole odd shaped.

All other companies either just pour plug as a pin, or as columbia 300 does, use a better anchor system .

That's exactly the way the ball is drilled JohnP.  I just wanted to know if by drilling out the pin if that changed anything in ball reaction?

BTW--I have about 20 games on this ball with no problems with cracking or anything for that matter.

Hey Scotts... Rob drill that for you? He drilled my new ZR40 that way with the pin directly in the ring finger hole.... no cracking and I've been fairly happy with the reaction so far....

IL_Bowler-I don't think it's a no-no for all companies, just some... says right in Storm's drilling sheet http://www.stormbowling.com/pdf/drill_specs/psa%20drill%20-%20right-reading.pdf for the Paradigm that if you're going to drill into the pin, to drill it completely out.
But on the Brunswick website the drilling sheet I found says that the pin must be at least 1" from any drilled hole to comply with warranty.

Yes and I've had him drill another the same way.  Great reacting ball.  Wanted some other opinions.

I'd rather have the pin drilled out than part of it as then it may crack out.  This was on an NS2.
