Arsenal Reactive Drill

I currently have an aresnal reactive drilled with pin at least an inch above bridge with gc 4 inches below and 1 inch to right.  small balance hole on pap.  This does not alyays finish.  I think my ball speed is slightly dominant over revs.  This ball fits under my robo rule and I use it on med/heavy conditions.  I am considering drilling it as follows: pin right of ring finger w/gc?  Balance hole below pap to increase backend.  suggestions please.

If I am understanding you correctly, it currently has the Pin above bridge between both fingers correct? The CG is kicked right? This kind of layout favors higher rev players IMO. I actually had 2 different Reactives, one with your drilling and the other with pin 1 inch right of ring and the CG about 1 inch of center. That layout was a world of difference. The AR is very sensative to layouts IMO! A different layout will be a drasticly different reaction. If you are having trouble with it finishing, try the other layout. I must also stress with the stronger layout, the AR becomes VERY picky with how much oil is out there! Mine didnt work correctly unless there was a THICK, heavy, and long coat of oil in the heads!

Yes, the pin is an inch above the fingers and centered.  I am getting it plugged tomorrow and the layout you suggested is similar to what I am considering, except the pin not quite an inch to the right.  This ball has a 4 inch pin and I am thinking this drill would give enough bottom weight to drill a balance hole on the val below the pap, for added back end. Does this sound right?

no, it doesn't sound right. Where'd you get the idea that that weight hole would increase the backend?

That wt-hole will increase the flare AND make it happen earlier. If you have the AR at its stock cover, 900 grit, this ball flares as much as one person can handle. That plus its ultra low RG often requires a lot of ball speed to insure it retains energy. I haven't played with mine a lot mostly because I have to visit a couple of other houses to find enough oil to use it, beofre I add a little polish. If you polish the ball, then the ball will flare a little bit later and extra flare will give some extra backend. Extra flare on a dull ball makes it hook earlier, not later, giving more overall hook.

I wouldn't go redrilling so fast without considering why it was "not finishing". I'm not sure from your sketchy information, but I wonder if the ball was hitting the dry too early and burning up early in the midlane. I don't know; I just wonder. I feel you're jumping the gun, so to speak, without knowing for certain, why this was happening; if you don't know the cause, then you don't know the solution.

Thanks for the reply, I agree understanding the problem is necessary to figure the solution.  My ball would go consistantly past the break point.  I think most lanes I'm bowling on do not have very clean back ends and therefore I wanted to redrill this ball to compensate.  As far as the weight hole low on the val for back end, I heard this by word of mouth, would the added track flare help back end reaction if they are oily?  I know my ball has pleanty of energy at the break point, it just seems to skid and not finish in time.

If your having trouble because of sloppy carry down back ends then try to go around the carry down.  Another thing you can try before re drilling would be to change the cover.  Try it at 600 grit then if that doesn't work go the other end of the spectrum and polish it.
