Assym. x-holes....
« on: February 24, 2007, 06:26:36 AM »
Is it true that, on Assymetric balls, the placement of the x-hole has no effect on flare or ball reaction???

Just something i heard that i wanted cleared up

I wouldn't say that weight holes have no effect, but they become third in importance with regards to layouts...

or possibly better way of saying it is that weight hole have less of an effect in asymmetrical core balls than in symmetrical core balls.

For asymmetrical cores, pin placement has the greatest effect, followed by the MB placement, then weight hole.

However...coverstock and surface prep is the #1 determining factor in any ball.

I totally disagree.  I think strong asymmetrical balls (like MoRich stuff) have a much different reaction depending on whether they have weight holes off of the PAP.  My Awesome Revs drilled with the asymmetrical flip drilling went very straight before I added a weight hole.  Afterwards, it now revs up real hard on the backend.  Just my opinion.  I guess it depends on how much flare the original drilling gives you.  If you pinned the ball for max flare, a weight hole isn't going to make a difference.  If you put the pin 5-1/2" from your PAP and get a nice tight flare, adding a weight hole is going to increase flare and dramatically increase reaction.
