Question about drilling and hand injury
« on: September 13, 2007, 08:57:56 AM »
I can not seem to figure this out.  Why is my little finger always hurting?  My nail is torn after bowling.  Could it be the way the ball was drilled or weight of the ball?  I have even tried to tuck it under and I still have the same issue?  In the past I have had issues with my ball being drilled wrong where the span was shorter than normal. But my fingers never hurt as they do now. Since I bought a new ball the span is longer and I believe this is where my problem is. My entire hand hurts for 3 days at the least after bowling..

Thanks for any reply.  I was looking to buy a ball and this site showed up.

Talk to the better bowlers in your area and find out where they get there equipment drilled.Go there and have your grip checked. This should not be happening, and could very well be caused by an incorrect grip.

I agree with the pooh. Have you span checked by  another reputable shop. I could likely be a case of too long a span causing your hand to be over streched and strain you tendons.

Little finger? as in pinky finger? Try to hold it against the ring finger when you bowl. If you already does it, try spread it.

Fopr a "quick and dirty" check on your span, place your thumb in its hole and your fingers over the top of their hole, not stretched.  The front of each finger hole should fall roughly half way between the two joints, assuming you are using a fingertip grip.  --  JohnP
