Bad Drill??

I have a Faball claw hammer that I use for dry short oil.  The problem is I bought it off of ebay and it had a really short pin.  It is less than an inch.  I have the center of Gravity drilled right in the center of the grip.  And the pin right above it as the driller said that was the only thing we could do.  Not all the time, but maybe every 10th shot it will plunk over the thumb hole.  I have a high track, but none of my other balls do this.  Should I try to plug this ball and do something else with the drilling or should i just scrap it and get something else for light oil?

Yes, the Claw is a pancake ball.  As such, it will always be a pin-in ball.

Card79...I recommend double-checking the span and pitches.

Add finger weight and side weight with a weight hole. Preferably more finger weight than side, but it depends on how much top weight there is. This should get the track off the finger hole in a 3-piece pancake core ball. =:^D

I have the same problem with LOW flaring balls do to my very high track. In my search to solve this I have come to the conclusion that if you are tracking over the thumb hole it's ALL in your release! A higher pin location will raise your bowtie and, help keep it from tracking over the fingers but I dont beleive it will help the thump over the thumb. More axis tilt is the solution. For me the problem is I stay behind the ball too long with too little up the side lift at release. It has helped me to change my setup hand position from thumb at 12:00 to around 10:00. The reason I dont hear the thump (track over thumb) on my high flaring balls is because they flare instantly on release and, I beleive in the air before even contacting the lane. Since a 3/4 roller release will flare away from the thumb, the sooner you can get the ball flaring the less chance you will have of tracking over the thumb. With balls that flare very little changing the drill will be of little help.

As for flaring over the finger holes the bowtie needs to be moved up above the finger holes. The bowtie location is located by drawing a line from the PAP through the PIN to your normal track location. If this location is near or below the finger holes it can be moved up by moving the PIN up.
