Title: balance hole

was just wondering what they are used for?  i just had a cell pearl drilled up and it has one in it and was wondering why?

Mostly they are used to bring the static weights back inside the legal limits. They can also be used to fine tune a reaction but not very often.

does it make a ball hook more at all?

It can depending on the location.  Some holes are "flare increasing" so that they can add to the ball's dynamics.  It won't add much to the total hook, but can add a bit of mid lane and back end, as long as your release, the ball's surface, and your release all fit the lane condition.

You would probably get a better understanding by asking your pro shop guy to explain it.

he never put one in any of my columbia balls and i had just noticed it when i brought it home
