What "tricks" for a Spinner
« on: February 10, 2009, 06:40:36 AM »
I have a guy in our house that is a very hard throwing spinner.  His average speed, qubica, is 20mph. He wants a new ball, currently throwing a Cell, and says he wants it to "hook".  I trying to think of what to do but am dumbfounded.  I was thinking of taking a relatively strong ball, putting the pin on his axis (to help the ball get into a roll)  and hitting the ball with maybe 320 grit.  Still don't know what ball he's gonna want.  What do you guys do when drilling for a spinner?

im a low tracker to. but have a decent amount of revs and speed. to get a early and strong move for me it has to be 3 3/8" from pap pin down and mb in strong position. a rico layout might be to early if he wants it to "hook"

He will need surface and a drilling to let the ball stand up sooner.  Try giving his middle finger (assuming right handed) 1/16 more span and go 3/8 away on pitch.  Shorten ring span by 1/16 and go 3/8 forward on pitch.  Changing span/pitch this way will make the ball feel the same but will decrease axis tilt and will help the ball stand up in the mid-lane.

Really should go with a pin down drilling.

I'd also consider a leverage setup, pin at 3 3/8" from PAP (should end up under the fingers for a low tracker) with a stacked CG/MB to help the ball break and get into a roll. Extra surface is also helpful.

If she does not want to stick with the Cell, a (very) low RG ball with high differential would help her, too. This gets the ball into a roll more easily, and a high differential paired with a strong drilling liek a leverage setup will make the core migrate towards it stable end roll axis quickly.

A Total Inferno would IMHO be a good candidate (even though it is discontinued), maybe a MAXXX Zopne, Hammer's Sauce, a Break Solid or S75, or a LevRG.

Echo the pin down and 3 and 3/8 from PAP, with leverage drilling.  Might want to try AMF's newest...Mega-Friction or possibly Lanemasters' Dynamic Power Particle.

dropping the ring finger will increase axis tilt, making more of a spin.  ide suggest if you're changing spans and pitches, pitch the fingers more to the left.  it will put more pressure on the inside of the palm and encourage less tilt

How about lessons instead of a new ball.

Thanks for all the input.  I agree that 3-3/8 stacked with surface will probably be the best.  I will suggest a few balls mentioned and see what he says.

Hey tommy,

"thinking outside the box"..I've placed some pins left of middle finger which helped the spin track actually raise up some to where the track was more effective "but"...at his speed, this makes it pretty tough.  Unless his rev to speed ratio matches, getting him to hook is a little tough.

I agree with using as much surface as possible combined with a very aggressive piece.

Thanks,
His rev rate is no wheres close to matching up.  I think surface and a very strong ball is the only way to go.
