Ball Track
« on: January 15, 2008, 03:59:05 AM »
My ball track runs over my middle finger and thumb holes.

Is this common? Cause it does get annoying having to wipe oil off the plugs every now and then. My grip is also compromised and yes, I know there is resin powder. Any insights?

thats not very good... might want to consult your driller.

You might be a full roller and not know it.  Talk to your driller.

At first the ball track was about an inch left of my middle finger, but lately, it's been crossing over onto the plugs.

I think your problem in all likelihood has more to do with your physical mechanics, probably starting with the way you hold the ball in the stance position, to your initial moving timing, to the armswing, and finally, to the way you release the ball.

If you know of anyone that is properly qualified (not necessarily certified, but certainly knowledgeable), have that person watch you bowl for a while, and then make some determination on how to change what you are doing wrong (hopefully your driller can be your helping guide).

Since you used to roll the ball away from your finger holes, I don't think that your correction will be too drastic (perhaps you are trying to get too much on the ball, and are somehow muscling your armswing and grip).

Be patient when trying to correct a mistake, and you will eventually get better.

If you are a high 3/4 roller and if your pin is out of the safe zone, you're probably flaring into the finger holes.  Does it start to "thump" well down the lane?  --  JohnP

Thump?

I don't think it does. Maybe it's just me, trying to put too many revs on the ball.

If you're tracking over the holes you should be able to hear the "thump" noises.  I have a ball drilled modified Rico and it occasionally hits the finger holes in the last 15' or so of the lane.  I hear it very clearly.  --  JohnP

Oh, thumping...yes, my ball does thump when it's rolling. It's an awful sound.

OK, when does it thump - as soon as you release it then quits, well down the lane, or during the entire length of the lane?  --  JohnP

The thump occurs early. At or around release, then stops before mid-lane. This is the best I can describe it.

If you have thick skin, take some video footage and post it.
It will be much easier to make suggestions after witnessing your delivery.

That sounds like you're a high 3/4 roller with a PAP that has a fairly high "up" coordinate, almost a full roller.  If so, you're starting out on the thumb hole and flaring away from it.  You would have to change your release to stop that.  Where is the pin on your ball located?  --  JohnP

Yes, I believe I'll have to tweek my release a bit, because the track over plug thing happened recently. I used to have my track around 11 o'clock.

My pin is located next to my ring finger.

Pin by the ring is close, but should be safe.  Work on your release.  --  JohnP
