I just got the Vise thumb mold kit in our shop and had a question. How much of the silicon do you use to make the thumb mold itself? Do you just start with say 2 ounces and see how far up the thumb hole it goes? Just looking for some guidance here. Brunsnick's site shows how its done, but just not how much to use. Thanx gurus!!

Hey Roto. It really depends on how large and deep the thumb hole is. The silicon molds work the best when there is about 1 1/2 inches of excess mold. So when you remove it and flip it over to create the inserts there is a sufficient base. In a 15/16 size hole drilled to a standard depth I use 1.50 oz. of silicon. Good Luck.

^^ Good info up there.

1.50 oz is usually more than enough for most thumbs. Then use the guide on the bottle for the amount of catalyst to mix in.

I usually leave about 1/2" of base at the top, any more and the insert can be too short for long thumbs.
