Best drill for low top wieght ball
« on: December 08, 2006, 03:52:38 AM »
Hello all I have a with .86oz top weight. The pin is about 3.5". I want to drill it for maximum back end reaction. I am a higher track power stroker speed around 15.5mph. What would you fellows recommend for a drilling? Any special instructions because of the top weight?
 Thanks for the help.

Personally I would drill this like any other ball I wanted to have that kind of reaction.  if you swing out the cg the ball may or may not require a weight hole and if it does it won't be very big.

put the pin up and the mass bias on the strong position

Sell it to someone who doesn't use their thumb... that would be perfect TW for just drilling two finger holes in a ball.

You're going to end up with a bunch of bottom weight which is thought to make the ball "rollier".   Hopefully it doesn't take away any of that backend you're looking for.  It shouldn't, seeing as backend is mostly a result of coverstock, surface prep, layout, hand and lane condition.

Just my $.02

To preserve the limited TW you're starting with, you could drill the holes as shallowly as possible.  It seems like many drillers do the finger holes much deeper than the first knuckle, you might be able to shave off a half-inch on each one and just trim the insert to fit.  Same with the thumb.  If you're not touching the bottom with the thumb, drill it a little shallower.

Probably won't make much difference though.
