Pin rising out - Help!!
« on: September 30, 2008, 01:41:18 PM »
I have two Ebonites that have been sitting a year when i opened the bag I noticed both had the pin raised up between 3/4 and 1 1/4 inches. I touched one and  it felt slightly mushy like clay. What is best option for fixing this issue?

Mine weren't sticking out THAT far, but I just took them to the shop where they used the spinner and a bevel knife to trim/shave the pins back down, then cleaned up the surface of the ball.

I had a pin come completely out of a ball once.  The shop just mixed up a bit of colored plug and poured it into the hole, just like plugging any other hole, and it worked out fine.

Wow, i've never heard of them like that, i've heard of a pin falling out before but not having it mushy.

I'd suggest cutting it off or drilling it out. I've seen shops drill out pins and replug the area and go on like nothing happened.

Must have been in cold storage. Nipples are hard. But seriously, folks......Cut'em off.

I would drill them out and plug the hole.  --  JohnP

This was a very common occurrence on the Ebonite/Hammer balls from a few years back, specifically the Viscous line from Hammer and the Apex line from Ebonite. As for the solution, either cut the pin down with a plug cutter/router and clean up the cover or just hack away at it with a bevel knife. Very simple fix.
