Bonanza GP2 Drilling?
« on: March 28, 2005, 04:47:36 AM »
Bought a GP2 from Beans hoping to get something worth drilling, but I guess with my luck, I just keep ending up with pins halfway around the ball...

Biggest problem here is that I'm looking at a 7" pin.  Hence, the mass bias is right under the CG, if not above it.

Any drilling options, or should I just toss this ball on eBay and hope I can get some dope to overpay for it and cut my losses?

That wouldn't be ethical now would it?

Tell me what you want it to do and I could make a suggestion for you.

Uh anything would be nice.

Acting as a decent heavier oil ball-- reads the mids, doesn't have to have amazing backend, but needs some kick...

Before you do anything else, check the location of the cg on a Kauffman scale.  -  JohnP

If I 'HAD' to drill this ball for me I'd do this.  First I'd go with a 5" pin to pap, with the pin about an inch over the finger holes. My span is 4 9/16" cut to cut,..adding an inch on each end of my span would be 6 9/16" to the outside of the fingers/thumb. The pin one inch above the fingers would put the 7" cg next to the thumb hole. I would put the cg about 2" right of the thumb hole, which would give me a 5 x 4 1/2 layout.  Next I'd check the statics,...with the shifted cg to the right and so low in the thumb quad, I'm probably going to have about an ounce of side weight and an ounce of pos thumb weight,...I would throw the ball before drilling a balance/weight hole, even if the statics were too high just to see what the ball will do,...probably it will arc and roll early.
Depending on what I saw,..and what I want,...I would begin removing the side and thumb weight with a 7/8" hole (just my favorite size) in the thumb quad between the pap and the cg in one inch increments,..throwing the ball after each inch until you get a decent look...some other options might be a 5 x 2 3/4, which would put the cg below my pap almost on my VAL,..then I'd drill a hole into the cg,..again 1" at a time, and throwing the ball. Adjusting the surface for length or reaction would be last.
