Bowling nerds/proshop guys *axis tilt, rotation*
« on: March 20, 2005, 03:52:17 PM »
By watching this video, what would you guestamate my axis of rotation and tilt to be?  By looking at the oil marks on my ball as it comes back on the return i notice i track pretty LOW, i have yet to have my driller find my PAP though.  Maybe some time this week i will get to that.

Anyways here is the video, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Best I can tell tilt is about 30°, can't tell about rotation angle the ball doesn't have enough color variation to judge in a video.
For tilt I captured the first frame where the finger inserts are at the bottom of the ball and top of the ball and then merged the 2 pics in photo shop drawing a line between the center of the grips of the 2 pics and for the line to be straight up and down I had to rotate the merged pic 29°.

You can find tilt by measuring your track diameter.
For every inch less than 13.5 your track is = 6 2/3° based on that if my measurement is correct your track would be about 9" (4.5 * 6.67 = 30)

if you would like a copy of the pic PM me with you e-mail and I will send it to you.

Alright thanks mate, i will do so.  Also, the Bwick fourm says my track is Inverted, seeing as its close to the fingers.

How is it that i have an inverted track?  I spose i could upload more video of what my hand is doing on the actual release, as i have some on the cam.

A friend of mine also has an inverted track and his ball roll is pretty much identical to your only less tilt.
I have watched him to see what causes him to have an inverted track and best I can tell is he comes straight through the ball after his thumb exits and all of his axis rotation happens prior to thumb exit and I think that is what causes it. Wish I could see video of him at faster than 60fps to see if I could spot anything else. It appears that you do this also. In your follow through do you end with palm up or more of a hand shake position? He ends palm up.

Jeremy: yea i only do that when i just trip the 7 pin out of a full rack.

Here is another video, in slow motion, and super slow motion.  Just to show how i hit the ball as it comes off my hand.

http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wODM4ODI0NnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D

I had studied it and notice that i make 2 movments, first thumb starts to come out hand turns, and then thumb comes out and i follow through the ball.  And im already past the midpoint of the ball, if i was to stay "under" the ball and just hit it in one smooth motion my rev rate would deff increase.  At least thats the conclusion i have come to...

Is this based on the diameter or radius.

I noticed that you said the track diameter was 9"
then in the formula you used 4.5.

It is based on the diameter.
9" diameter
13.5 - 9 = 4.5 * 6.67 = 30°

SO you measure you track then subtract 13.5 off of it?

abs(Dt-13.5)*6.67 ?

Yes other than you subtract the track diameter from 13.5, doesn't matter which way other then you will get a negative if you subtract 13.5 from the track diameter.
For instance I have track of 12"
13.5 - 12 = 1.5
1.5 * 6.67 = 10°
